A Vision for Preston: Heptagonal Mosque Rooted in Light and Geometry
Our proposal for the 2021 RIBA competition for a new mosque near Preston envisioned a sacred space defined by a heptagonal geometry and vertical light slits. The building is embedded in the landscape and oriented toward the specific needs of the Arab population historically settled in the region, while remaining open to the wider Muslim community.
The architecture integrates sustainable solutions such as solar panels and a green roof while expressing a spiritual identity through simplicity, light, and geometry.
Interestingly, some of the design values we explored in our early submission appear echoed in the final winning proposal; perhaps a sign of a shared architectural sensitivity responding to the needs of the community.
