Victorian House Renovation by the Canal – Westminster, London

This two-level Victorian-era house (early 1900s) is located in the Westminster area, within walking distance of Portobello Road and adjacent to the Grand Union Canal and Meanwhile Gardens.

From a design perspective, the goal was to create a brighter and more fluid space by merging the living room and kitchen and relocating the washroom to the side. The lower-level room, previously affected by water infiltration from the canal, was fully rehabilitated.

The outdoor space bordering the canal was also redesigned, with new paving and integrated lighting placed within the existing vegetation.

As in other projects, the reuse of original materials played a central role. During demolition, the characteristic yellow bricks from both the street-facing and canal-side exterior walls were carefully recovered. These were then re-laid by local craftsmen, skilled in traditional brickwork techniques of the period.
